We are currently out of bending stock and it's unclear how soon we will be able to resume shipping ribs. We've partnered with Josh Swan at J.W. Swan and Sons to offer pre-cut kayak and canoe ribs at prices even better than we can match. Josh is familiar with the requirements for our boats and has some of the best oak we've ever seen, and we're happy to be sending our builders his way.

IF YOU ARE PURCHASING A KIT OUTSIDE THE U.S. AND ALSO NEED RIBS: please send an email to brian@capefalconkayaks.com. We may be able to help with combined shipping to keep costs lower.

This straight grained, clear, green (wet) White Oak will bend like butter out of the steam box but harden like, well, oak, in the finished boat. Oregon White Oak has both the highest modulus of elasticity and the greatest hardness of any American oak tree, making it an ideal boat building wood. Boards are no older than 3 months off the log and cut on a per order basis to preserve the highest possible moisture content. Ribs are milled to exactly 17/64 x 1 5/16 x 30 inches, giving you what I think is the perfect compromise between strength and ease of bending. I recommend ordering 5 more ribs than you need, and I'll throw in a couple clearly marked less than perfect ribs so you can fire up the steamer and do some test bends before you commit to the process.

Check out this video to see us making these from log to finished rib, and for a steam bending demonstration:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6GtNqUXUBE&t=97s

IMPORTANT NOTES: If you are building the 225, or 250lb F1 or the largest size LPB inches send me an email so I can cut your ribs longer and thicker! If you are building one of the Cape Falcon Greenland Kayaks, also let us know because we can cut the ribs shorter and save you some money on shipping.

For canoe rib stock we have a list of suppliers in the kayak course.

ALSO NOTE: Because of their weight, rib orders can sometimes incur additional shipping fees, especially internationally. If there is a large discrepancy between quoted and actual shipping cost, we will reach out before your order is shipped.
