Side-mount Cleat
These side-mount cleats are an alternative to the top mount clam cleats we normally use for our sailing system and rudder uphaul lines. The advantage to these side mount cleats is that they lay flat inside of the canoe gunwale for a less obstructed single-blade canoe stroke. The disadvantage is that their bulk inside the gunwale changes the canoe nesting geometry. If planning to use these cleats on nesting canoes you will need to be a 2 1/2" difference in canoe widths to accommodate the cleat thickness.
IMPORTANT: Starboard means that the cleat will clamp a line coming back toward you on the right side of the direction you are facing. Port is the opposite. When the lines are coming from the stern it is the reverse, so if ordering a cleat for a rudder uphaul line, make sure to order the opposite side of what you want.
