Important Note: our single lip coaming provides a secure spray skirt attachment, but if you want to use a sea sock with your kayak or are paddling in extreme conditions, we recommend ordering a double lip coaming. Double-lipped coamings are custom orders and require some lead time, but we sometimes have some on hand. Please get in touch for more details.

Bending a solid, properly shaped cockpit coaming is by far the most difficult part of building a skin boat.  Feeling adventurous?  We say go for it, but if you'd rather avoid the learning curve we can sell you one of ours.

Our coamings start as raw logs at the Zena sustainable forest, zenaforest.com where we work together with the sawyer to cut and select out the very best boards. Next the rough boards are purchased and planed, and again, the best wood is selected.  (less than 15%) Finally coamings are sawn, steam bent, glued, and coaming lips are nailed on with bronze ring nails. The result is what we believe to be the best, strongest skin-on-frame kayak coamings built anywhere. The 1/2 inch lip paired with a properly sized Snap Dragon or Seals sprayskirt will give you piece of mind whether you are rolling your Greenland kayak in ice cold water or punching out through heavy surf.

Size is 16 1/2 x 20 inches inside diameter. Order inside length based on pants inseam not actual inseam. Avoid the temptation to order a longer cockpit than you need, your knee bracing will suffer. Custom coamings available on request.
